Finding Time for Homemade

I’ve always been drawn to homemaking, frugal living, and DIY EVERYTHING! I often walk through stores, pick up a beautiful decoration of some sort and scheme about how I can make it myself. Even though I draw the line at spending a bundle on craft supplies to DIY something and “save money”, I haven’t always been this disciplined!

Needless to say, Pinterest is my jam (and I know I’m not alone here!). For awhile I was making my own bread, chicken stock, yogurt, and lots of homemade meals. I’ve tackled many furniture makeovers and crafts too. Then I had my third baby, and 16 months later I had my forth! However, back in January of this year, I decided I was going to invest in an essential oils kit and start making some of the other recipes I had been pinning for so long– homemade cleaning and personal care products. All that to say, I have shifted my focus a bit to making over our medicine cabinet, cleaning closet, and weeding through our everyday personal care products. I started to love making my own products so much that a few months after I got my kit I began regularly teaching classes on essential oils and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it!

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not hard to make your own products, but I hear everyday from moms who simply can’t put one more thing on their plate, and I. totally. get. it. That’s why I’ll admit, we’ve probably been eating the same handful of meals over and over again for the last 8 months! This is not to say that I no longer take nutrition seriously, but let’s be honest. You simply can’t do it all. We are pretty bland eaters these days, but we still think it’s important to steer clear of processed foods and get plenty of fruits and vegetables.

If you’ve had a desire to learn more about having a toxin free home or about boosting your immune system in a natural way I challenge you to stick with me on this one. What if you changed out just one product a week? Just one. In 9 months I have completely eliminated all cleaning products with toxic chemicals from my household (you know, the ones that stink!). Maybe it won’t take you that long. Or maybe it will take you longer. Even reducing your toxin load little by little can prove to be beneficial over time. You might even notice changes in your family’s overall wellness right away. I know we did! Cutting out toxins has improved our respiratory health, and minimized doctors visits and antibiotic use drastically! Did I mention that I also save a bunch of money this way too?

Now that I can honestly say that the homemade products I’ve made are tried and true, I’m going to be sharing my recipes here on the blog. I’m super excited to have a place to document and share what works and what doesn’t!
